“This was a really great project - we’ve never painted a mural before”. (Jack Pearson & Christopher West)
Artist Matthew Blackman said;
“The pupils have worked really hard and come up with some really great art work, and fantastic ideas. They have been involved at every stage of making the mural, from the first ideas to the finished piece”.
As well as winning a prestigious Gold Award from Northumbria in Bloom for the last 5 years, Holley Park School is also giving its outdoor area a mini makeover with the help of a local artist Matthew Blackman.
Over a five week period, pupils from year 4 and year 5 have worked with Mr Blackman, to create a brand new mural measuring 6m x 2.5m for the school’s shipping container.
The new mural celebrates the school’s natural environment, with designs based on the children’s drawings of things they have collected from the school field and gardens. The mural features words such as ‘our friends’, ‘relationships’ and ‘laughing together’ to highlight the good friendships the children try to develop and maintain with each other throughout the school.
“I have had lots of fun designing this mural”. (Amy Hurst)
“Working on the mural has been fantastic, especially when I was painting the design onto the container!. (Jessica Williamson)
“One of the best things I’ve taken part in”, (John Mitchinson)
